Debra Messing to return to NBC musical drama ?Smash? about the putting on a Broadway show

The talented Debra Messing, who we loved for eight years in her Emmy winning role of Grace Adler on Will & Grace, is returning to NBC this fall in the new series Smash which follows a cross-section of characters who come together to put on a Broadway musical.

Some are already calling it a Glee for grown-ups.

The show is based on a concept by Steven Spielberg and focuses on the cast of a Broadway musical about Marilyn Monroe. Also in the series is former American Idol runner-up Katharine McPhee, Jack Davenport and Oscar winner Anjelica Huston.

Between Will & Grace and Smash, Messing starred in The Starter Wife which began as a miniseries on USA Network then returned as a regular series and lasted one season. She earned an Emmy nomination for her performance on that show.
