Singer Christina Aguilera was arrested for being drunk in public, police said on Tuesday, and spent several hours sobering up at a West Hollywood police station before being released.
Aguilera, 30, was a passenger in a car being driven by her boyfriend in the Los Angeles-area community of West Hollywood when police pulled him over for driving erratically at about 3 a.m. pst on Tuesday. Matthew Rutler was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving and Aguilera was "extremely intoxicated", celebrity web site TMZ.com quoted police sources as saying. The "Beautiful" singer was taken into custody because she was deemed unable to take care of herself, TMZ said. She was released about four hours later, but police said she was unlikely to be prosecuted for public intoxication.
