Daytime Emmy Award nominations announced: So where is Eric Sheffer Stevens nod for As the World Turns?

Okay Daytime Emmy voters, what happened?

The 2011 nominations were announced today and one name I was certain would appear in the category of outstanding supporting actor in a daytime drama was that of Eric Sheffer Stevens for his portrayal of Dr. Reid Oliver on As the World Turns.

But it was not there! I checked twice! Then one last time. Nothing. What a missed opportunity to acknowledge one of the most unique, moving, funny and intelligent characters in the history of daytime soaps.

Stevens brought something very unique to a daytime soap and the soap?s writers knew they had struck gold with the actor and his character. He could be so funny, he could be such a jerk, he could be very sexy and in the end, he could break our hearts.

The seasoned actor was new to soaps and his chemistry with Van Hansis (Luke) was so crackling that many fans welcomed the split of longtime lovers Luke and Noah (Jake Silbermann) so Luke could be with Reid.

That?s why I selected Eric as the winner of the Greggy Award for Soap Star of the Year. He made ATWT worth watching in its final days.

This is a major slight and quite frankly, an outrage.

Here are the five actors who did make the final cut: Jonathan Jackson, as Lucky Spencer on General Hospital; Jason Thompson, as Patrick Drake on General Hospital; Brian Kerwin, as Charlie Banks on One Life To Live; Doug Davidson, as Paul Williams on The Young and the Restless; Billy Miller, as Billy Abbott on The Young and the Restless.
