Obama: Bin Laden Death Photo Will Not Be Released

President Barack Obama, enjoying some of his highest approval ratings in months, has decided against releasing those gruesome snaps of dead Al Qaeda mastermind Osama Bin Laden, taken just moments after the terrorist was killed by the US military.

The conspiracy theorists are going to just love this?.

?The risks of release outweigh the benefits. Conspiracy theorists around the world will just claim the photos are doctored anyway, and there is a real risk that releasing the photos will only serve to inflame public opinion in the Middle East,? Obama told CBS? Steve Kroft during taping for a 60 Minutes interview that will air on Sunday. ?Imagine how the American people would react if Al Qaida killed one of our troops or military leaders, and put photos of the body on the internet. Osama bin Laden is not a trophy ? he is dead and let?s now focus on continuing the fight until Al Qaeda has been eliminated.?

Turns out, the photo is still part of a classified investigation. The president made his decision as the Navy SEALS involved in Sunday?s bloody raid in Pakistan arrived in Stateside for debriefing Wednesday, and US officials began to comb through the trove of computer files, flash drives, DVDs, and documents that the commandos hauled out of the terrorist?s hideaway.

Obama?s call not to release Bin Laden?s final photo has earned the politician praise from Canadian songbird Nelly Furtado, who sent this Tweet out into the Twitterverse shortly after Wednesday?s announcement: ?So grateful that we?ll have one less violent photo circulating throughout the world. #white house has good taste??
