It'd be sweet if the phone had an iSight, you could dock it on your computer and video chat with ppl in ichat. (Well, great for people like me who have a g4, and no isight already)

so you have to re-rip any albums that are affected by the gapless feature?
No, you don't. I just didn't have Quadrophenia loaded on that iPod before.

I think you mean 4% of 142 million $.....
Samsung's worldwide turnover was only 138.4 billion for 2010. So I'm guessing Apple buys about $6 billion.

The client and server releases of OS X already have some form of software based anti-malware protection.
The Snow Leopard client version includes xProtect to detect most of the trojans that compromise OS X.
The Snow Leopard server version includes xProtect and Clamav (email scanning but database does include OS X threats as well).
I would be surprised if both features were removed from Lion.

Tom was referring to this feature (http://arstechnica.com/business/news/2011/01/shows-over-how-hollywood-strong-armed-intel.ars).
"Intel... takes advantage of a new hardware module inside Sandy Bridge's GPU to enable the secure delivery of downloadable HD content to PCs, has been blasted as "DRM." But of course it's only a DRM-enablera hardware block that can store predistributed keys that the Sandy Bridge GPU uses to decrypt movies a frame at a time before they go out over the HDMI port."
It allows for secure playback of cloud movies, without the risk of pirating. Your own files aren't being scrutinized.
Clix Pix put the matte preference well in an old post (http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=245491):
Go "matte.....easier on your eyes under all lighting conditions, more accurate representation of what will be printed or show on other people's monitors."
Photographers and people who don't like sparkled/ full of reflection monitors go with matte.

Well here at work I could replace 4 PC draughting workstations with a Conroe based system. We already have 23" monitors so we are not going to purchase iMacs, and while Mac Pro's are nice they are too expensive for us... A $1500 headless system would do wonders! (and yes the mini is too little).
If Apple cannot release such a system we will have to continue purchasing PCs... :(You are the market Apple has got to be planning on winning. I have been using two monitors since 1986 when the Mac II made that possible. I might consider a mini - just for fooling around - if it had two moniotr ports.
This I see as the primary problem with the iMac as well. Although it does now allow spanning, the screens are going to outlast contemporary power levels over time thus making the idea of all-in-one very unattractive to those of us who want state-of-the-art power every 12-18 months or so and don't like the idea of a computer behind our screens. I like my computers on the floor.
What I want is the ability to have significant power along with the ability to hook up to 4 screens to that power not one or two - especially not the computer married to any displays.
I guess there are three types of people in the world:
1. Someone who only wants one screen hooked to a separate small computer that can only hook to one screen.
2. Someone who wants a screen married to the computer with the option of adding only one more.
3. Someone who wants one or more screens hooked to a computer on the floor with room for two dual display video cards.
I can see the mobile MacBook Pros as justifiably containing a computer married to a screen - but only with a Dual Link DVI port - unlike the mini and iMacs. Price of the MacBook explains the missing Dual Link DVI.

Err, can someone please explain what the fascination is over "gapless playback"?:o
<pretty please>
As of now, If I rip my Pink Floyd Dark Side of the Moon Album onto iTunes and put it in my iPOD, there are little gaps in between songs. If you listen to the album on CD, the tracks change, but there are no gaps, one song goes into the next.
The same could be said for other music, classical music that is multiple movements, but THROUGH composed might have track changes, but lead from one section to the next.
Kind of a small thing, but a good thing none the less.
Hooray!!!

what's with all the video issues that the old 5gen canNOT be compatible with?? and what's with the pixel number?
dammit i'm totally ignorant when it comes to tech issues.....
so can any of you please bother to elaborate about the suitable file types for both the old on and the new one?
:eek:This Handbrake tutorial is pretty complete (http://www.freesmug.org/tutorial/handbrake/). But you need to substitute the H.264 max dimension of 320x240 up to 640x480 the new MAX. Trouble is, as far as I can tell, the Handbrake H.264 encode to those new dimensions yields files that won't load onto Video iPods. So far only a QT Pro no options fixed iPod export works. But those files are about 150% larger than similar non-H.264 files. I have written the author of Handbrake (http://handbrake.m0k.org/) about this problem. Hopefully it will get fixed in the next month or so - I hope.

Why werent all these companies using apple when they first started using the turn app store (before it was making money)? We all know if app store was not making money for Apple, MS would not want to use it.
How long has the appstore been around? A few years now?

Microsoft is still doing very well. They're making the best products they ever have done and as a customer I am very pleased with all of my Microsoft purchases.
- Zune desktop software
- Zune hardware and mobile software
- Windows Phone 7
- Windows 7
- Office 2010
- Office 2011 for Mac
- Xbox 360
- Xbox Live
All great products and deserve to be class leaders if they are not already. I can't think of another company (including Apple) that has put out such a fantastic range of very good products.
Where did you buy Zune hardware in the UK? And since we didn't even get the Zune subscription service until September 2010 it can't have been much use to you!

I guess Apple should'a put Conroe in the iMacs. Is there a chance this will mean Conroe will be in MacPro's?
I bet this go in the "Mac Gamer" regardless of form factor. Either the mini-tower or a revised Mac Pro enclosure.

What phone you have? The newer quad band phones get great service in and out of urban areas using Cingular.
Quad band has nothing to do with getting service in the US. A dual band phone will get you all the service you ever need in the USA. The 2 extra bands in "quad band" are ones used outside of the US.

As posted above, "RoomStore" is trademarked, however.
But they don't sell rooms. They sell furniture. The app store sells apps.

Getting rid of the optical drive would be stupid. No way to burn CDs (yes, I buy CDs because I like supporting artists and I like higher quality music) and no way to watch DVDs (no DVD player or TV here in my dorm room).

The mockups always look real, but when the actual product comes out, it's wayyy cooler than the mockups. Look at the 5G iPods and its fakes.
Everyone seems to know that Apple is waiting to release a phone. It's only natural after all the success the iPod's doing.
As for when this phone comes out, It'll probably be Cingular at a "one more thing" event in october just like last year.

Sigh... It's a shame really, I don't need nearly the kind of power that even the lowest Mac Pro has, but it's the only desktop mac that I could buy at this point. It is not the first time where the iMac has more CPU power than the entry Mac Pro. Seriously, it does. If you get the 6970M (HD 6850) you can beat the video card as well.

Considering that the iTS is like the 5th biggest music vendor, they sure suck at selling movies. 125k is nothing compared to real movie vendors.
Maybe when they get more than 75 movies. Amazon unbox started with like 2000 movies!

I just do not think Apple is going to introduce a cellular phone. The ideas sound great around here, but I don't see any good busness model for such a device. What is Apple going to make money on selling such a product?

It's so nice not to have to be on any ****ing "contract". (Sorry, I just really hate the state of the cellphone market in the USA.)
Amen to that. I have T-Mobile now with pay as you go...... I don't like getting raped monthly by cell phone providers.
But, BTW..... where the **** is my Macbook Pro with Merom? Its Tuesday...what the **** is going on........?
