Wanda Sykes performed in Long Beach last night at the Terrace Theatre, a performance which took place during the city?s two-day gay pride celebration which concludes today. Wanda talked to Frontiers IN LA and here are some highlights:
Q. How has coming out impacted your career for better or worse?
A. My audience is diverse, but they?re pretty loyal. I haven?t seen a drop in my numbers as far as my tour. I?m also sure that I picked up some new fans after coming out. My fans are still with me ? straight or young, they are all across the board.
Q. Why do you think female comedians like Margaret Cho, Ellen DeGeneres, Chelsea Handler and Kathy Griffin are so well-received in the gay community?
A.Margaret and Kathy are both funny. And also they are very forward to the gay community. It?s like you?re going to support us, we?re going to support you kind of relationship. But mainly, it?s because they?re funny.
Q. What does Wanda Sykes have planned for the future?
A. Well, right now motherhood is my first priority. I?m working on Ice Age 4, and other than that it?s just writing and touring.
