I'm surprised that some of you don't understand what Steve is saying. So while I am stating the obvious, here goes:
Apple is a corporation. Corporations are required BY LAW to maximize profitability for their shareholders (fiduciary duty.) This is THE ONLY thing they "care" about.
Now, does providing products that customers like help them maximize profits? Of course. But don't ever confuse their efforts to please customers as being altruistic or showing that they "care" about customers. They only care about profit. If keeping customers happy increases profits, they do it. If giving away free bumpers for iPhone4s is good PR and creates customer goodwill, which increases future profits, then they do it. If selling private data to advertisers or government agencies creates more revenue than it costs (in lost customers,) then they do it.
It is all calculated on the bottom line and they are REQUIRED to take the action that maximizes profits, like ALL corporations.

Unless an app is breaking the law, then they have no authority and should have no reason to concern themselves with apps.
It's already been said, these checkpoints are posted in local papers, this is just an app that makes that information easier to access.
I bet Apple pulls them. RIM already did. Companies far too often cave to the illogical or crazies rather than standing up for what is logical and right.

I'm getting a 17" 2 ghz C2D iMac (that's a mouthful) soon.
Sounds exciting with all that speed! I don't know what to do with it! I guess my iTunes visualizations will be smoother, and I'll have the Dashboard ripple effect.
I also work in iMovie sometimes so the speed gain will be nice.
I am moving up from an eMac 1 gigahertz G4. So I'm sure it will seem very fast to me. Probably more than I need.

I really can't say enough good things about my new MBP 17. If next year brings a redesign then it will need to be one hell of an improvement to get me to switch, because this thing has impressed me so much more than I expected.

Let's ask yourself this.. they are saying that approx 1 in every 17 people now have a Windows based phone?? Do you know ANYONE that does?? Cause I know hundreds of people who have smartphones and not one of them has a Windows based phone.. major statistical failure!
They must be counting the old Windows Mobile 6.x devices too - a very shaky thing to count as definite wins for WP7 in the future. A lot of those old WP6 devices are corporate, and we all know that corporate phones are moving towards the iPhone or BlackBerry.

Oddly enough I agree with this. I'm one of those people who prefer to have the physical copy in my hand, complete with pretty box art, etc. With this however, I just see it as another means to eventually get HD content on my HDTV. I love watching content in HD, and at this point, I don't care how I get it, just as long as I get it. :)

They have plenty of patents. It wasn't until the 90s that the patent madness really started with software. Google is also leading the bidding for a large portfolio of mobile patents to protect them against Apple and Microsoft.

Looking at some financials, I think Disney sells on the order of 100M DVD units per quarter, which comes out to about 7-10M units per week? 125k units through the online channel in one week isn't so bad. :) If they hit their $50M revenue target, that means they will see sales on the order of 1% of total home video sales? That's a fair start.
And undoubtedly a better margin. I have not seen any concrete numbers, but I had read an article months ago speculating that a studio's margin on digitally distributed movies would be about twice the margin it receives on DVDs.
Plus, for catalog sales, the is almost NO marginal cost; the films just sit on a server until someone buys them.

Lot of stress for little money. Actually, it would be nice to see Apple step in and help out here. They do after all have other stores in other malls that need protecting, and the guards might be comforted to know Apple has their backs.
If you read the linked article you will see that the guard exchanged gunfire with the 2 male suspects. It's not excessive to try to save your own life...

Der. No! The Woodcrest CPU is widely expected to make its debut in Apple's PowerMac replacement computer (widely expected to be called Mac Pro) on
August 7th 2006 at the World Wide Developers' Conference.
Rumored maybe, but not "widely expected". I only expect the high end Mac Pros to have Woodcrest, I can see the low end having Conroe easily.

there is no such thing as charity in america, it always comes through commerce. why not just donate the $200 bux? does a lot more than the 10 bux you are donating now, so you can justify getting a new ipod. hell i would buy a red ipod just cos of the color i don't see why the cos has to be associated with it, if they're gonna do this they might as well just donate 10% of all ipod sales. at least it does something more than haveing a "show off" recipet for your so called act of charity.

Very surprised by many of the responses in support of pulling the apps. I think Apple shouldn't. No I don't support drunk driving, but his borders on ridiculous. There are other apps that supposedly help to circumvent the law... red light camera apps, speed trap apps, police radio scanner apps. So doing one of these things is different? Type in the word "Pot" int he app store and your find apps for cannibus. Isn't that against the law? So now we are going to censor the app store. You open the door for one thing and the government will march right through and pick thing after thing. Bad idea.

Tell that to Apple. If Apple ever ships an AMD system and decides to use an AMD platform for the next Air, combined with a 6000 series GPU, I'd be all over that as an upgrade.
For now, there is no reason to speculate on AMD systems from Apple.

Second, Creative makes a lot more than mp3 players. They were not going anywhere with mp3 players.
3rd, they are a very durable company, have servived many ups and downs in the computer industry and are a very efficiently run company out of Singapore.
